Manjaro

After more than three years, I finally installed a Linux distribution on my laptop. It is definitely not a good time to install it considering all the drama with Torvalds and the acceptance of GenAI slop into the Linux kernel but it is what it is. I am completely unable to do anything if drivers are not working. For now, I have installed Manjaro. It is my first Arch-based distribution. I am not used to the pacman commands at all and keep on typing "sudo apt …" commands.

I was a bit stupid in having to reinstall Windows before installing Manjaro as I did not pay attention to the formatting instructions properly. I was under the impression that Manjaro also could not resize my existing Windows partition (Windows shrinking did not work due to fragmentation). I wiped the disk, installed Windows again and lo and behold, even on a fresh install, it is fragmented. I decided to throw caution to the winds and install Manjaro after formatting the whole disk when I realized I could actually resize the partition from the Manjaro live USB. Anyway the whole thing is done and I am trying out basic things and figuring out the flow on this. I already made one mistake and tried using the administrator password when prompted on package installation. That ended up locking my username for sudo and I had to fix that using the suggestions from this and this link.

# Login to root using admin password
> su -
# faillock --user damu

Here I could see that my faillock was valid which indicates my account is locked for sudo. I reset that using

# faillock --user damu --reset

This is being written from my new installation. I have to figure out if my git push would work or not (I suspect not).
