Another Migration
Codeberg published a blog stating that the .pages that I am currently hosting this on would be served by git-pages instead and asked everyone to migrate. Their migration guide is quite poor and confusing and expects an expert audience. There were some contradictory statements. Anyway I did what they suggested and I hope it is right.
An especially confusing part was this segment:
If your repository is called pages, the old server used the default branch instead of the pages branch. This is not supported by git-pages with the webhook deploy method. Please rename your html branch to pages if you intend to use the webhook deployment method.
I had no idea how to do this and stackoverflow ended up helping me. I had to modify the flow a bit and did the following sequence of steps:
# Rename the local branch to the new name
git branch -m $old_name $new_name
# Prevent git from using the old name when pushing in the next step.
# Otherwise, git will use the old upstream name instead of $new_name.
git branch --unset-upstream $new_name
# Push the new branch to remote
git push $remote $new_name
# Reset the upstream branch for the new_name local branch
git push $remote -u $new_name
I had to then change the default branch in the Codeberg repository page to this new branch.
# Shorter way to delete remote branch [:]
git push $remote :$old_name
After the above sequence of steps, I could see that the branch in my repository is now called pages instead of main. This push is to document the things I did and check if this is now working. I hope it does.
